Top 10 Wardrobe Must Haves June 29 2014, 0 Comments
A wardrobe to envy is something every girl wants. The best way (in our opinion) to build an enviable wardrobe is to start with some basic building blocks and then expand from there. Once you have the basics, it is easy to add pieces that will complement your style and give you the wardrobe of your dreams.
Our Top 10 Wardrobe Must Haves are:
- Black Blazer: Easy to throw on and go, a great fitting black blazer can dress up any outfit to go out but still be dressy enough for work. We like the Kensie Three-Quarter Sleeve Blazer from Macy's.
- Gray pencil skirt: Nothing looks nicer than a gray pencil skirt a great blouse and some sky high black pumps. We like the Grey Lightweight Wool Pencil Skirt from Banana Republic.
- Colored Cardigans: Cardigans are so versatile they can be worn for work or a casual outing. Start with one in basic black or white and slowly add more in various colors as your wardrobe grows. You'll be amazed by how much you can wear them with. We like the Crew Neck Cardigan from Express (in every color).
- Ballet Flats: Perfect for days your don't feel like wearing heels. Flats are easy to walk in (usually comfy), and season-less. We like the Caroline Printed Ballet Flats from Tory Burch.
- Black pumps: An absolute wardrobe necessity. These classic shoes can be worn with everything. We like the Natalya Platform Pumps by G by Guess from Macy's.
- Dark Jeans: A perfect fitting pair of jeans will take you far. Throw them on with pretty much any top in your closet, some flats and you are ready to go. We like the Modern Straight Leg Jeans In Rinse Wash from Loft.
- Statement necklace: Statement necklaces are a great way to finish off an otherwise boring outfit. Think of them as the cherry on top. We like the Cobalt Beauty Necklace from LaMaLu Boutique.
- White Dress shirt: Extremely classic and basic, this staple can go with anything. We like the Ellison KB Blouse in Ivory from LaMaLu Boutique.
- Black Dress pants: Classy and dressy. A great fitting pair of black dress pants will let you go far. We like the Double Dobby Boot Cut Pants in Julie Fit from Loft.
- Watch: A great watch is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. Bonus points that they're also functional. We like the Gramercy Watch by Kate Spade.
What makes a piece a wardrobe must have? Pieces that are timeless, season-less and can be worn with anything. Classic pieces won't go out of style so they are worth spending a little more money on.
How I Wore it: See You Top by Everly June 24 2014, 0 Comments
The "See You Top" has been in heavy rotation in my closet lately. I probably sound like a broken record, but I just love clothes that can be dressed up or dressed down. Anything versatile that can work double duty in my closet is a must have. Plus, you cannot beat Carolina blue.
How I wore it: paired with white shorts and my (old) favorite coach wedges with a chunky white and gold necklace. This was the perfect outfit for the US open and I knew it would take me from on the green to inside.

How I Wore It: Tropical Tank in Royal by Everly June 17 2014, 0 Comments
Welcome to the first ever "How I Wore It" post. I've decided to start "How I Wore It" to show you what I'm wearing with each LaMaLu Boutique piece that I own. You can also check these posts out on Instagram @shoplamalu.
If you've been reading for a while, you know that I (Lauren) love ANY piece of clothing with a cute back. A few examples are the "Take Two Top in Pink & Coral" and the "Esley Lattice Back Dress" (I wore this in my engagement pictures and on my honeymoon in Jamaica!)
I wore the Tropical Tank out to drinks with some friends. Since we were going to be outside, I paired it with pretty mint shorts (from Loft) and my favorite Tory Burch flats. Cute, casual and cool.
Outfit Inspiration: Kate Middleton June 15 2014, 0 Comments
A classic striped top is a must for every wardrobe. Just ask Kate Middleton:
Source. After seeing how casual yet chic Princess (Duchess) Kate looks wearing navy stripes, skinny jeans, a blazer and wedges, I knew stripes were in LaMaLu Boutiques future. I cannot get over her blazer - I love the gold button details.
Unfortunately, the navy option was sold out but pink is just as pretty.
The Candy Stripes Top in Pink is super soft and comfy. We love the boatneck and the forgiving cut. You can snag one for yourself a steal at just $22.
We're still on the lookout for the perfect navy striped top to replicate Princess Kate's outfit. Stay tuned.

Outfit Idea 1: Striped Tank Styled for Work April 19 2014, 0 Comments
This post kicks off a new series with outfit ideas incorporating one or more LaMaLu Boutique pieces! I hope you'll enjoy reading these as much as I (Lauren, the owner) enjoy making them.
While I love the Spring Stripes top on it's own, it's not exactly office appropriate (or weather appropriate in NC this weekend). Topped with a blazer however, it's great for work. I love the pop of color the tank gives the outfit. You can pair this with black dress pants or jeans. I wore this to work a few weeks ago and got a ton of compliments.

Trend We Love - Wire Wrapped Bangles February 18 2014, 0 Comments
Happy (Almost spring)! A trend I am LOVING now is the wire wrapped bangle trend. I love that you can wear the bangles individually or stacked. As many as you want or as few. They are an incredibly easy way to accessorize (and super affordable, too).
I especially love that these are hand made in the USA (CT to be exact).
I love all of them. Spring colors coming soon!

Top 5 Tuesday - By Kristen October 15 2013, 0 Comments
Top 5 Tuesday - by Kristen one of the LaMaLu buyers.
Lately I’ve been getting super excited about fall weather and all the cold weather essentials. What I’m
loving right now are light-weight piece perfect for the transition from hot to cool.
A Pearl-ing Top
Pair this with some dark jeans and boots and it’s the perfect date night top.
Red Beaded Beauty Necklace
As a NC State graduate I’m always looking for great red pieces I can wear to a game and this necklace is perfect.
Ellison Black Polka Dot Top
Add the red necklace above to this black shirt and I’m set for NC State tailgate. The outfit is casual
enough for day, yet still dressy enough for night.
Royal Print Strapless Dress
For those days when the weather creeps back up to 90 degrees, hello last weekend, a short strapless
dress is still my go-to item.
Turquoise Drop Earrings
I don’t know about you, but I love turquoise year round. I think these gorgeous earrings will be finding
their way into my jewelry box!
What trends are you looking out for this fall?
Peplum or Not To Peplum? October 01 2013, 0 Comments
I have to admit, when I first saw the peplum trend, I was skeptical. I mean, who WANTS to make their hips/ waist look bigger? Not me.
But like almost all trends, the more I saw it, the more I liked it.
- For those with straight figures, a good peplum will give the illusion of hips and a smaller waist.
- For those with hour glass figures, peplum will add some extra curve.
After deciding that I did, in fact like the peplum trend, I was on the hunt. A few weeks ago, the LaMaLu.com team finally found the perfect peplum for LaMaLu Boutique -
Floral Lace Textured Black Peplum Top. I love the peek-a-boo lace detailing on the top and the peplum is absolutely gorgeous. At $36 - this is definitely one of our favorites of the fall new arrivals.
Tell us: What do you think about the peplum trend?
Mustard Love, LaMaLu Boutique style. September 23 2013, 0 Comments
Mustard is a hot color right now. Now don't go thinking Dwight Shrute in mustard.
Think, Blake Lively source. How gorgeous does she look in Gucci? I love the twisted halter.
Be like Blake in our Golden Lace Top.
Golden Lace Top - yours for only $36.
We LOVE the braided cross straps in the back.
Question: Mustard clothing, yes or no?
-Lauren: YES! I love it.
The First LaMaLu Boutique Trunk Show & Trunk Show Information September 04 2013, 0 Comments
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine hosted the FIRST ever LaMaLu Boutique trunk show.
A LaMaLu Boutique trunk show, consists of friends, food, wine and all things LaMaLu Boutique. On the Thursday night before the trunk show I packed everything up and loaded it into my car. If you follow us on Instagram @shoplamalu, then you might have seen the pictures of everything packed up. When I got to my friends apartment, I quickly unloaded everything before everyone arrived.
The great thing about Trunk Shows, is that you can see, touch and try on anything that you want. So many people said, that everything looks so much better in person and I have to agree though I do love our pictures by the fabulous Kristen Abigail Photography.
Everyone loved trying on all of the LaMaLu Boutique pieces and accessorizing to their hearts content. I am so pleased with how the trunk show turned out and I cannot wait until the next one.
Trunk Show Information
If you are local to NC (will travel) and would like to host a trunk show, please contact us here. We are open to doing both public and private trunk shows. The host receives a gift for hosting and there is no limit to the number of people that can attend.
Engagement Outfit Ideas August 30 2013, 0 Comments
My fiancee (still can't believe it) and I are having engagement pictures done today and figuring out what to wear has been quite a challenge. Obviously, I had to wear head to toe LaMaLu Boutique!
I have finally decided on wearing the following:
Silver Knot Earrings (how perfect are these since we are tying the "knot"?). I'm wearing this with my casual outfit - not with the below outfit!
And For My Formal Outfit -
Esley Lattice Back Dress - the back on this one is just TOO cute to pass up.
With the 7 Bangle Set - I just LOVE this one.
And the Pink Filigree Necklace. I seriously love everything about this outfit which is why I styled Taylor in it for our photoshoot.
And for the finishing touch - the Pink And Gold Textured Earrings.
What do you think? What did you / would you wear for your engagement pictures?

Wedding Shopping - Ruffled Dresses July 31 2013, 0 Comments
I (Lauren - the LaMaLu Boutique owner), am a soon to be bride. I have been perusing wedding magazine after wedding magazine looking for wedding inspiration and right now I'm focusing on what to wear to our rehearsal dinner.
I am KIND of in love with the ruffle dress trend. I first stumbled onto it when I started perusing wedding mags.
See this gorgeous ruffled dress? Not quite what I am going for with my actual wedding dress (think lacy, fitted), but what great inspiration for a rehearsal dinner?
I love our Red Ruffle Zip up dress. Cute and flirty and would look amazing with a cardigan. Bonus points that it is on sale for $36.

How Do You Store Your Jewelry? June 16 2013, 0 Comments
Happy Father's Day!
I hope you're spending the day with your Dad and spoiling him rotten.
Inspired by Pinterest, I decided to try storing my jewelry in decorative ways.
I got this great bowl (which I think is actually a cake stand) from Homegoods. It's perfect for keeping some of my bracelets and watches together. I keep it in my bathroom so I can easily grab whatever catches my eye.
I use this dress form (that I think is from Pier 1) to store some of my necklaces. I keep it on my dresser and change out the necklaces periodically. It also keeps them from tangling.
For the rest of my jewelry, I use this hanging jewelry bag from TJ Maxx. It has individual pockets 3 per row except for the bottom row which only has two large pockets. I love that this bag is double sided and comes on a hanger. For only $12, this was worth every cent and I've used it for years.
The more awesome jewelry we get in stock at LaMaLu Boutique, the more I want which means I'm going to be trying to find more cute ways to store mine. So tell me, how do you store your jewelry? What cute crafts are you pinning on Pinterest?
Giveaway Time! June 10 2013, 0 Comments
I hope everyone had a great weekend. I know I did! In NC, we've been experiencing quite a bit of rain lately which has me yearning for warmer temps (minus the humidity) and blue skies. I thought it would be a good idea to start this week out right with a giveaway! This beaded white necklace, which we also have in red, yellow and blue is one of my favorites. It hasn't even been posted on the website yet but you have a chance to win!
Enter by going to the LaMaLu Boutique Facebook page and "sharing" this photo. That's all. I will pick a winner on Friday. Good luck!
Spotlight On: Open Back Dresses June 03 2013, 0 Comments
Now that we're past Memorial Day, we've made it to the "official" start of summer (at least here in the south). Summer in NC, to me, is lemonade, front porches, cookouts, concerts, beach visits, pool time and fun dresses and tops.
Dresses have always been my favorite thing to wear so it's easy to see why summer is my favorite. What better way to shine at your summer get-togethers than with a cute new dress? Better yet, try one of these open back beauties now available on the LaMaLu Boutique website:
Lattice Back Dress by Esley. This is my favorite and I'm buying it for myself - that's how much I like it.
Blue Bow Back Dress - fun and sweet.
Coral-Red Tie Dye Maxi - This is a super soft and long maxi dress. Perfect for a cookout or a concert on the lawn.
Which one is your favorite? What is your go to summer style?
My Story - Behind the Boutique May 08 2013, 0 Comments
Here is MY story - Behind the Boutique.
I'm Lauren. I'm 25 and I graduated from college almost 3 years ago. Time has flown since graduation from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. I spend my days working in marketing and my nights with my friends and family.
I first dreamed of owning an online boutique in 2009 when I started job searching. I love shopping, especially online (as I'm sure you do too) but being tall - I'm 5'10, sometimes I have trouble finding clothes that are long enough. Especially dresses, my absolute favorite thing. So I started dreaming about a boutique where I catered to taller ladies my mom and I even discussed it semi-seriously but due to my busy college student schedule at the time, nothing really came to fruition. Fast forward to graduation 2010 - I'm jobless and nervous about my future (and moving back in with my Mom) I began writing up a business plan. 12 pages long - I have a degree in Sociology, not business; I was that serious. I even named the boutique. When I started researching, I got even more reassured that this was something I COULD do.
It was right about this time that I got my job! I was hired! I quickly shelved my plans and my dreams to happily settle into my 9-5 marketing job. The next two and a half years absolutely FLEW by. One day though, I read this post by Lara Casey and it ALL changed. "You know all those things you've always wanted to do? You should go do them." All of my ideas and dreams were suddenly all I could think about. If I didn't try, I would never know what could be.
Failing at my dream didn't matter, what really mattered, was failing to realize my dream. Procrastination wasn't an option any longer. I knew what I had to do - I had to Make. It. Happen. As my boyfriend was gone on deployment, I had alot of time on my hands. At this point, I had big dreams and time to make them come true. One cold day in January, I took the jump and applied for an LLC - I remember how nervous I was standing in the post office my hands shaking as I waited to mail my application in to the State of NC! Once I mailed it though, I felt almost immediate relief I just knew I was making the right decision for me. I worked nights and weekends on my business plan and trying to get my licenses together. I certainly ran into some bumps in the road, particularly in the naming process. My original boutique name, from 2010 was taken by the time I was ready to make my dream come true. So between that, finding funding and figuring out what I needed to do to get everything started, there were definitely a few tears shed.
Roadblocks along the way
I had to apply for a special permit in order to be able to even apply for a business license. Luckily, I won the permit but I definitely was very nervous speaking in front of the Raleigh Board of Adjustment. It was actually just after I won (and was feeling really confident) that I got a call from my lawyer recommending that I change the boutique name. I have to say, I was crushed. I'm so grateful that I had the foresight not to order anything with the previous name before I spoke to my lawyer so that I only had to change my permit information and some licenses rather than everything so that was certainly a blessing in disguise. At the time though, I was pretty down. Matt was still gone, and I was lonely and nervous. That lawyer while very helpful, was expensive and I was discouraged. It was right at the time that the opportunity to attend Making Things Happen came up. I'll save my Making Things Happen post for another day, but suffice it to say that I felt not only relief but encouragement.
Today and Beyond
I used my MTH experience as a diving board to launch me into the next level where I was going to succeed, no matter what. And that brings us to today - May 7th 2013. Today, I received my first shipment for the boutique. I cannot even put into words the excitement and elation I have from having my dream come true. Doing what fires me up truly makes me so happy. I am just thrilled and cannot wait to launch my boutique. The sky is the limit.
